They say a week is a long time in politics … this morning it seems a hell of a long time in football, too.
Seven days ago, I posed the semi-rhetorical question, “Where do we go from here, Bhoys?” This morning, we know; and in all honesty, I am shocked at the contrast in the exciting side that took Rangers apart so spectacularly last Sunday and the one that surrendered so meekly at Fir Park yesterday, after the kind of horror start I have never before witnessed from a Celtic team.
Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine the answer to my question would be, “To Hell in a hand-cart”, as my old Granny used to say.
Lenny had us all … well, me … convinced that his new, young, fresh, exhilarating team was on the verge of something really special. I still believe it may be; but this morning, they all (Neil, included) have to take a long, hard look in the mirror, not like very much what they see and resolve to make amends. REALLY resolve to make amends.
If they do, everything just might be okay. Oh, how I hope so. If not … if they pretend yesterday was anything other than a humiliation, a disgrace to the jerseys and a slap in the face to the fans who gave them such unparalleled, thunderous backing, so recently … or, worse still, if they don’t even bother pausing for thought at all … then, God help us.
So, here we go again:
“Where do we go from here, Bhoys?”
