THE LEAGUE SHIELD (1904-1910)
Continuing our mini-series showcasing some of the landmark triumphs that are the building blocks and fabric of this great club of ours:
Having established itself as a major power in Scottish football moving into the 20th Century, Celtic soon took a complete domestic stranglehold, dominating the league, in particular. From 1904-1910, the “Hoops”, resplendent in the now-iconic home strip that was adopted at the start of season 1903/04 in place of the former green and white vertical stripes, racked up six consecutive League Championships.
To commemorate the impressive feat, The Scottish League presented the club with the elegant wood and silver shield pictured below, adorned with inlaid miniature wreathed medallions, inscribed with the names of each season’s respective playing squad and arranged around a central Lion Rampant.
