BETWEEN the immortal Jimmy McGrory and the peerless Henrik Larsson, Joe McBride, more than any other, electrified the Parkhead faithful with his prolific goalscoring feats.
Joe died last night. Condolences to family, friends, colleagues and fellow admirers … “May He Rest In Peace”.

The Legend “Josie Goals”
Another Lion denied his day
by fateful injury,
yet booked his place
hence evermore in Celtic history;
a man revered in Parkhead lore –
for fame eternal set …
when he couldn’t think
what to do with it,
Joe just stuck it in the net.
As strikers go, there’s very few
can touch the Hoops’ big three:
McGrory, Quinn and Larsson –
such panache you seldom see.
Though a wee tad less flamboyant,
still a sure-fire, odds-on bet …
when he couldn’t think
what to do with it,
Joe just stuck it in the net.
A sage once said, “See that McBride,
he’s useless, show’im the door –
does nothin’ for the team at all …
all he ever does is score!”
Now, wiser words none ever spoke;
the memories linger yet …
when he couldn’t think
what to do with it,
Joe just stuck it in the net.
The immortal James McGrory,
asked the best he’d ever seen
at number nine to lead the line
for the mighty men in green,
replied without a hint of doubt,
“McBride!” – his mind was set …
when he couldn’t think
what to do with it,
Joe just stuck it in the net!
