WELL, for one thing, John Lennon, ever the most controversial Beatle, took delivery of his eye-catching, refurbished, psychedelic Rolls Royce.  It caused uproar, including the raising of a formal complaint by the iconic car company itself!

Lennon had bought the car new from Rolls Royce in 1965 but soon became bored with the bland (lack of) colour – so, a couple of years down the line, he commissioned a bespoke psychedelic paint job that was more to his liking – and more in tune with his off-the-wall, unconventional lifestyle at that time.  The car was subsequently sold at famous auction house, Sotheby’s, in 1985, for $2,299,000.00 … at that time (and possibly still) the most expensive private car ever.
