IN HONOUR of the truly phenomenal fightback that saw Europe conquer a stunned USA to win and retain the Ryder Cup last night, we re-publish our epitaph tribute to their declared inspiration, the incomparable Severiano Ballesteros, catalyst for the remarkable upsurge in European golf in recent decades.
First published on the day of the great man’s funeral in May of last year, it enunciates some of the characteristics that made him the role model and golfing Messiah he was … and which were reflected in the resilient, never-say-die performance of his disciples at Medinah.
Let’s hope Celtic can embody some of that same fighting spirit in the Luzhniki Stadium tomorrow afternoon, to reverse prevailing Champions’ League (Group Phase) ‘away’ form and produce their own minor miracle in Moscow.
